Electronic invoicing and its consequences on SOFICO invoices related to the kilometer charge – No double invoicing

What is it about?

Since 1 January 2026, electronic invoicing is mandatory in Belgium.

This implementation means that when a vehicle subject to the kilometer charge drives in Wallonia, an electronic invoice will be sent in the name of SOFICO, without this implying any direct payment on your part.

This change concerns only the format of the invoice and does not modify the payment procedures for the kilometer charge.

For Flanders and the Brussels-Capital Region, no change occurs: the documents and payment procedures remain identical to those applied until 2025.

What changes (or not) for me?

  • You will see, in your accounting system (via the PEPPOL network), an electronic invoice issued in the name of SOFICO for the kilometer charge in Wallonia.
  • However, you do not have to pay this invoice directly to SOFICO.
  • The amount corresponding to the kilometer charge continues to be invoiced and collected exclusively by your service provider, with whom you have a contractual relationship.

In practice, there is therefore no double invoicing. The payment procedures for the kilometer charge thus remain strictly unchanged for the user.
