The kilometer charge in Belgium
Who is it for?
The kilometer charge applies to:
1/ All vehicles designed or used for transporting goods (category N) with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) exceeding 3.5 tons.
2/ N1 vehicles with body code BC.
They are subject to this regulation:
Regardless of whether the vehicles are empty or loaded.
Whether transporting commercial or private goods.
Some vehicles can be exempted…
Specific categories of vehicles can be exempted from the kilometer charge. Vehicles
- Used exclusively by the army, civil defense, fire department and police
- Especially and exclusively equipped for medical purposes
- Used exclusively for agricultural, horticultural or forestry activity using public roads in Belgium in a limited way
… others are out of scope.
These vehicles are not submitted to the kilometer charge and can be registered.
- Specific construction vehicles
- “Green” testdrive plate Y (mandatory registration)
- Old timers (over 30 years old)
- Training vehicles
